A new poll shows that voters have lost confidence in Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen
The last week has seen the uncertainty over the EU’s effect on Denmark’s immigration laws worsen, and the prime minister’s popularity has taken a knock as a result.
The Greens Analysis Institute poll for financial daily Børsen showed that voter confidence in Anders Fogh Rasmussen has dropped by eight percent in just a few months.
Of the 905 people questioned this week, 47 percent still believe the prime minister is doing a good job, while the number of dissatisfied voters has risen from 38 to 45 percent.
Rasmussen’s support has not been this low since the aftermath of large welfare demonstrations in July 2006, according to Greens.
‘‘Fogh is losing ground. There’s no doubt that the row between the government and the Danish People’s Party (about the effect of the EU ruling), the unrest over immigration policy and the finance minister’s shaky handling of the Finance Bill are evident. The poll is a warning to Fogh that even though he continues to stand strong, he needs to tighten the profile,’ said Hans Engell, the former leader of the Conservative Party.
