This has been the talk of Scandinavia.

It appears that a number of people became citizens without following the rules-

A new poll shows that voters have lost confidence in Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen

The last week has seen the uncertainty over the EU’s effect on Denmark’s immigration laws worsen, and the prime minister’s popularity has taken a knock as a result.

The Greens Analysis Institute poll for financial daily Børsen showed that voter confidence in Anders Fogh Rasmussen has dropped by eight percent in just a few months.

Of the 905 people questioned this week, 47 percent still believe the prime minister is doing a good job, while the number of dissatisfied voters has risen from 38 to 45 percent.

Rasmussen’s support has not been this low since the aftermath of large welfare demonstrations in July 2006, according to Greens.

‘‘Fogh is losing ground. There’s no doubt that the row between the government and the Danish People’s Party (about the effect of the EU ruling), the unrest over immigration policy and the finance minister’s shaky handling of the Finance Bill are evident. The poll is a warning to Fogh that even though he continues to stand strong, he needs to tighten the profile,’ said Hans Engell, the former leader of the Conservative Party.

This breaking.

Israeli police have recommended to prosecutors that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert be indicted in a corruption investigation, Israeli media report.

The decision about whether to indict Mr Olmert now rests with Attorney General Meni Mazuz.

The political effect of the police recommendation is limited.

An interesting find.

Limited blogging and computing in general on the island of Bornholm. Found the photo above interesting for those of you who are WWII buffs. I’m not sure there is another American soldier buried in Denmark. This came near the end of the war and I don’t know the whole story. The Germans had occupied all of Denmark during the war and had about 20,000 troops on the island. Bornholm is much closed to Sweden than Denmark.. As the war ended the German commander wanted to surrender to the Allies but they were a little slow in showing up. The Russians demanded a surrender and proceded to viscously bomb the communities of Nexo and Ronne for 48 hours. The German commander surrendered and the Russians occupied the island for the next year. Yep, the next year.

They are famous for their smoked fish. I probably will get tired of it by the end of the week but so far so good.
